Kate Anians, an Interview with Founder & Designer of SIX Studio
Where did the name SIX come from?
The name for Six comes from ‘Six months’ being a pinacle point in pregancy, you are coming to the end of your Second Trimester and entering your Third, the home stretch! (literally!!) At this point you are visibly pregnant and need to adapt your wardrobe to your changing body.
I also really wanted the name to be something simple and modern without sounding obviously like a maternity brand, so Six was the perfect fit!
What was the inspiration behind setting up your business?
Having worked as a designer for brands such as La Perla, Coco De Mer and Myla, I know the lingerie market well and subsequently enjoy wearing nice underwear! When I became pregnant with my son Arlo and came to buy maternity underwear I was shocked at the limited offer available and the fact that aesthetically things didn’t look to have changed much in the past 50 years!
This is where the idea for Six came, no other brands were making the kind of product I was looking for, something considered and contemporary using beautiful fabrics that I would have worn before pregnancy. If I was looking for this product I knew that there would be many other women out there also experiencing the same frustration.
What makes your product different from the competition?
It was very important for me that the Six collection is produced in Europe using luxury European fabrics such as French Leavers lace and Italian jerseys.
I want Six to be aligned with contemporary leading brands in the Lingerie market and to be set apart from regular maternity underwear brands.
What energises or ignites you? What are your true passions?
It means so much to hear from customers who have bought and love the Six collection. To know that women are able to buy maternity underwear and really feel good in it is so great and makes all of the hard work worthwhile and reassures me that starting Six was the right thing to do!
What single piece of advice would you give to pregnant women out there?
Don’t compromise your style or self identity during pregnancy, just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you have to start wearing gathered wrap dresses!! Invest in a few great pieces of clothing that make you feel good and like yourself during your pregnancy.
How would you best describe the SIX woman?
The Six woman is a style conscious, modern woman who appreciates design, quality and beautifully made clothing.
